"It's the Little
Things" Mark your calendar for the Society's annual fall fundraiser. This year we will exhibit dolls, many of which are antique and some historically connected to Butte County. The exhibit will also include "room boxes" being shown by the local Miniature Club. Four dollhouses have also been offered for display. Much of the exhibit will remain on display through October, which will coincide with National Miniature month. Additionally, there will be demonstrations of miniature construction and doll appraisals. The cost of admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Children four and under enter at no cost. The admission price will allow free re-entry for the rest of September as well as October. If you would like to help with the exhibit or have a doll or miniature that you would like to have exhibited, please call 530-533-9418. Click here for a flyer you can share with your friends In keeping the the theme of the exhibit, an American Girl Doll, along with her trunk and wardrobe, is being raffled. The doll we have chosen is one of the original American Girl dolls and is no longer available for sale. She represents a young girl in the early 1900's. Tickets are available at the Ehmann Home and the Museum. She will also be on display at the Butte County Fair and other BCHS events until December, when she will be given to the raffle winner at our annual Christmas open house.
Perry Mason
Days Once again BCHS will be actively participating in Perry Mason Days celebrated each year in Oroville. Erle Stanley Gardner, the author of the Perry Mason mystery series, attended Oroville High School and we remember him with a variety of fun family activities. Our society sponsors an archery tournament (Erle was an avid bow hunter and is in the Bowhunters Hall of Fame), several movies, introduction of his family members and an essay contest for high school students with a $200 cash prize! A Summer Visit to the BCHS Museum and Museum
Store When you are out and about on a warm Friday morning or early Saturday afternoon, you should drop by our air-conditioned Museum and Museum Store. After a captivating trip through Butte County history at the Museum, take a few moments to browse through our newly reorganized and restocked Museum Store. While you may not "need" anything we offer, you may be tempted to learn more about what is there. Please let us know what you think. The store has many local products made in Butte County. There are new additions from Painted Sky, a company based in Gridley that makes soaps, lotions and heel & elbow cream all from goat's milk. Mooney Farms, based at the Chico Airport, has wonderful culinary products that feature sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke pasta sauce and pesto. This Butte County company also has wonderful olive oil and beautiful gift baskets! These are just the tip of the iceburg of local products, books on local history, archival storage boxes and folders now available. Just a note to our regulars--there have been numerous calls to us about Lee's Tamale Spice which was previously carried in the store. We are sorry, but it is no longer available. So think about us on a warm Friday or Saturday when you are ready for a cool and exciting experience. We're looking forward to your visit.
